Having always been a big lover of physical books, I shocked everyone in my family when I bought a Kindle last year. But, has that baby paid for itself ten-fold over—especially with the lockdown in the UK still being very much a thing.
Here are some of my favourite books I’ve read recently, all ranging from 99p up to £5 currently on the Kindle store as of (March 2021).

From romance to fantasy, contemporary to crime, let’s dig in.

The Black Kids
Currently £0.99 on Kindle.
I read this book last year as part of my reading for The Island Library Book Podcast, and it has remained one of my faves since.
When four police officers are acquitted after beating a black man named Rodney King half to death. Suddenly, Ashley’s not just one of the girls. She’s one of the black kids. A coming-of-age story with racism at the forefront, and while its set in 1992, the story is painfully still relatable in 2021.
Maybe in Another Life
Currently £0.99 on Kindle.
This book was so hard for me to describe, but it was beautiful and makes you think deeply about the choices we make. I’m a huge fan of Reid’s works, and this was no different.
Taylor Jenkins Reid tackles a story about Hannah, who has a decision to make when she moves home. Following both concurrent storylines, Hannah lives out the effects of each decision, with the book asking the question is fate and true love even exist.
Before I Saw You
Currently £0.99 on Kindle.
Having had the chance to read this book before it was released, I am ecstatic this book is out for everyone to read.
It’s an emotional, but beautiful read that will have you struggling to put it down.
Alice and Alfie are strangers. But they sleep next to each other every night. With Alfie having been in the hospital for months recovering from an accident, he’s pleased when he gets a new neighbour. The only problem is, Alice doesn’t want to be seen, and she can’t even look at herself after being badly burned.
Finlay Donovan Is Killing It
Currently £0.99 on Kindle.
An entertaining book I really enjoyed, its different from what I usually read, but was an easy, cosy read.
When Finlay Donovan, single mum and crime writer, is having a hard time she suddenly finds herself wrapped up in a real-life murder investigation. But they do say, write what you know.

Red, White and Royal Blue
Currently £1.89 on Kindle.
I’ll scream about this book forever, it is one of my favourites, and a go-to book when I need cheering up. I have a kindle copy, a physical and I’m sure I have an Apple Books version to. Y’know, just in case.
The story of America’s First Son and the Prince of Wales. What begins as fake-dating for international relations, quickly becomes something real. A beautiful, grin-inducing romance new adult book.
In Five Years
Currently £2.99 on Kindle.
If anyone was around for the last few of these blog posts, they know my feelings on this book. If you are new, however, let me tell you, this isn’t all it seems, but you will cry, your heart will ache, but it’ll be worth it, I promise.
Dannie falls asleep the night after getting engaged to her perfect boyfriend, only to wake up in a different apartment with a different ring on her finger, and in the company of a very different man. It’s the same night – December 15th – but 2025, five years in the future. She tells herself it’s a dream, and almost believes herself, until four and a half years later, when Dannie turns down a street and there, standing on the corner, is the man from her dream.
Vicious
Currently £4.31 on Kindle.
Having picked this book up on a whim, I am so glad I did. V.E.Shwab series is wonderful, captivating, and almost makes you wish you had extraordinary powers yourself. Almost.
Victor and Eli started out as college roommates who quickly discover how to gain extraordinary abilities. Ten years later, Victor breaks out of prison, determined to catch up to his old friend (now foe), meanwhile, Eli is on a mission to eradicate every other super-powered person that he can find.
Such A Fun Age
Currently £4.53 on Kindle.
This book has you feeling all sorts of things, sometimes rage and sometimes sadness. With a deep-dive into the layers of racism, you’ll feel changed by Such A Fun Age.
Emira is apprehended at a supermarket for ‘kidnapping’ the white child she’s actually babysitting, it sets off an explosive chain of events. Her employer Alix, a feminist blogger with the best of intentions, resolves to make things right.
Tweet Cute
Currently £4.58 on Kindle.
If you’re after a book that makes you grin all the way through it, buy Tweet Cute. It’s cute, adorable and romantic, just make sure you have snacks while reading as the book will have you craving.
All’s fair in love and cheese, and when Pepper and Jack begin a viral Twitter war, the only thing they aren’t aware of is their growing feelings.
While there are so MANY more books I wanted to add, I strictly picked from both ends of the spectrum in pricing, and which ones were my favourite. If you’ve read one of these, what did you think, let me know below!
I shocked myself too when i started reading most of books on kindle in the last couple of months! I used to totally despise it, but don’t have much more space to hold physical copies. I really loved Red, White and Royal Blue and will add some more to my TBR! Thanks for sharing x
